AFAR FINALIZES CAIRO EVENT

Immersive Travel Series Inaugural Event: October 25-27, 2011

San Francisco, September 23, 2011…AFAR Media, the multi-platform media brand focused exclusively on experiential travel, has finalized plans for the inaugural event in its immersive travel series AFAR Experiences. The event, taking place in Cairo October 25-27, will welcome travelers and locals for an extraorinary three-day program designed to encourage interaction, insights, perspectives and personal access to this beautiful city and its people at a pivotal time.

AFAR founder Greg Sullivan writes from Cairo, ”This is my fourth visit to Cairo this year following Mubarak’s resignation in February. What I’ve experienced has been fantastic. I have been fortunate to meet many locals from a variety of fields. They are so excited about their future. What doesn’t make the news is everyday life, what the locals are doing, or what you’re likely to experience if you visit a place. To me, that is partly why travel is so important: to understand the people and the culture better, to appreciate our differences and to get beyond the feeling of ‘otherness’ that separates us.”

The event agenda includes private admission to the Egyptian Museum, a walk through historic Tahrir Square, intimate dinners in the homes of local residents, an exclusive afternoon session at the magnificent Sultan Hassan mosque, and conversations with prominent artists, writers, architects, politicians, cultural historians and revolutionaries at local restaurants, cafes, markets and galleries – with more details still to be announced.

Confirmed participants include:

Jawad El Nabulsi, revolutionary

Tarek Labib, renowned local eco-architect

Mona Said, owner of contemporary Safrakhan Gallery

Gamila Ismail, female parliamentary candidate
