AFAR Media creates content programs for partner companies, brands and other organizations to establish, deepen, and/or redefine their relationships with their target audiences. These programs include articles, social media, email newsletters, travel guides, and videos among other digital and print formats.

We are seeking a detail-oriented, creative, and enthusiastic Branded and Sponsored Content Editor who will play a central role in developing and executing content programs. This position will report directly to the Director of Branded and Sponsored Content, and work closely with marketing and sales teams, to conceive of, create and optimize branded and sponsored content campaigns. Equal parts skilled storyteller and expert producer, the ideal candidate will enjoy the fast pace of making content from various client perspectives. Experience in the travel category required.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead editor by pitching, assigning, writing, and editing stories
  • Partner with the sales/marketing teams to brainstorm and develop on-brand ideas that support clients’ objectives/KPIs
  • Maintain an editorial calendar and manage freelance contributors, including commissioning and briefing as well as budgets, contracts, and invoicing
  • Assist with sourcing, evaluating and selecting freelance writers
  • Recruit, cultivate, and manage one intern
  • Be a hands-on producer, from research and interviews to sourcing images and proofing
  • Initiate new practices and procedures that benefit the team and streamline productivity
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data specialists and researchers to ensure SEO and SEM optimization, sales and marketing, and editorial
  • Act as a liaison between sales/marketing and editorial to get new ideas approved and executed
  • Contribute to best practices, POV, and other thought leadership, and merchandise AFAR work and projects internally and externally
  • Support content needs across the business, including partner and product-related initiatives, as well as special projects within the content team
  • Study the competitive landscape to stay current with news, tools, and trends in the travel and content marketing industries to identify new approaches and opportunities
  • Ensure ASME compliance

Requirements:

  • Excellent command of the English language and strong copy-editing skills
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented, highly organized, and proven ability to meet deadlines
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in creating travel content for a branded content studio, advertising agency, or editorial publishing company
  • Must be a proactive self-starter with a collaborative and go-getter spirit
  • Ability to see the big picture, think critically and take various stakeholders’ points of view into account
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Expertise in travel and culture industries
  • Must be based in NYC
